Date Codes

Let’s talk Louis Vuitton Date codes.

A date code isn’t a tell all that your bag is authentic, but it does tell you some things! My favourite part about LV date codes is you’re able to find out just how old your bag is.

Prior to 1980’s: You won’t find a date code in these vintage gems.

Early 80’s: You’ll find 3 or 4 numbers representing the manufacturing month and year. The first 2 numbers will reflect the manufacturing year, and the last 1 or 2 numbers will be the month.

Early, Mid, & Late 80’s: You’ll find 3 or 4 numbers in the date code, followed by 2 letters. The flow for reading this sequence will be year, month, and then location. Later into the 80’s, the location letters can be found before the year and month numbers.

1990’s into 2006: You’ll find a sequence of 2 letters, followed by 4 numbers. The 2 letters will always represent the manufacturing location, whereas the sequence of numbers is as follows: the first and third number represent the month, and the second and forth numbers represent the year.

2007 into March 2021: You’ll again find the sequence of 2 letters, followed by 4 numbers, but the representation is different. The 2 letters represent the manufacturing location, where the first and third number represent the week, and the second and forth represent the year.

March 2021 - Present: No more date codes. Dates codes were eliminated and replaced with RFID chips in each item. *most items*
