Leather Conditioner vs. Mink Oil
Share
Mink oil contains high concentrations of organic fats which get absorbed by the leather to create intense hydration. Along with deep condition, mink oil has some water repellant properties as well. This is a double whammy to both condition and shield from dampness and possible water damage. It produces a barrier that helps to repel water/moisture, while also protecting from discolouration/colour fading. Due to the intense moisturizing elements, mink oil can create darkening to your natural leather.
Leather conditioners are products that have been professionally formulated to assist in hydrating and protecting your leather items. Leather conditioner usually comes in a lotion or cream, whereas mink oil is usually in the form of a paste or oil. Leather conditioners generally don’t have the waterproofing properties of mink oil, so you may have to use a separate moisture/water proofing spray afterwards.
